School energy monitoring: one clearer picture across the campus

A school campus can include older buildings, modern teaching spaces, sports facilities and solar panels. Each uses or generates energy differently. When the information sits in separate systems, it is difficult to see what is happening across the estate.

The scenario

This school project brought together data from more than 85 meter points across the campus. The aim was to give the estates team a clearer view of energy use and solar generation, so they could spot patterns and investigate areas of concern.

The approach

Working with Montis, PJW’s metering approach connected information from across the school estate. A central view can help the team compare buildings, follow solar performance and look more closely at how facilities are used outside normal hours.

For example, overnight electricity use might reveal equipment left running. Sports lighting data could help the team assess whether lighting is being used efficiently. The value lies in having enough detail to ask the right questions and act on the answers.

Why it matters

Clearer energy data helps schools move from estimates to informed decisions. It can show where to investigate waste, where changes may be working and where further improvements could make a difference.
