Student accommodation: one clear view of energy use across the site

Managing energy across student accommodation is difficult when each apartment has its own meter but the information is scattered. A site operator needs to see individual usage while also understanding what is happening across the whole development.

The challenge

A national student accommodation provider needed apartment-level energy monitoring across multiple UK sites. The metering also had to connect with each site’s building management system (BMS), so the operator could view the information centrally.

The approach

Working in partnership with Montis, PJW supplied M-Bus and Modbus meters selected around the site drawings and project requirements. With a meter serving each apartment and data connected to the central BMS, the operator could see both individual apartments and the wider site.

Why it matters

Apartment-level data gives the operator a clearer picture of where energy is being used. Bringing that information together can help teams identify unusual consumption earlier and make better-informed decisions about energy management.
